Recently Gandi expanded its domain name offering by boosting the number of extensions we provide. This doesn't just help us reach more customers internationally

, but allows existing customers to centralise their domain name portfolio in one place, particularly those that have some of these less common extensions.

Hello,
We have heard from many of our customers that they have been receiving phishing emails.
These mails take the following form:
Dear user of the yourdomain.com mailing service!
We are informing you that because of the security upgrade of the mailing service your mailbox (you@yourdomain.com) settings were changed. In order to apply the new set of settings click on the following link:
http://yourdomain.com/owa/service_directory/settings.php?email=you@yourdomain.com%from=yourdomain.com%fromname=vous
Best regards, yourdomain.com Technical Support
The phishing scheme seems idiotic at first, because the clickable URL uses your own domain name.
In reality, however, the link is not the real link, which points to an external server, and asks you to perform a download, which seems to be a version of a known trojan called Zeus/Zbot.
The server(s) in question is/are already registered in the various anti-phishing systems.
In any case, we recommend that you continue to remain vigilant, since one stupid phishing attempt can hide another !
We will take this opportunity to remind you of the basic rules of use.
You must always verify when you enter your password that you are on Gandi's website, our SSL certificate is an EV Business certificate, and is Green in your web browser's address bar. It is not possible for an idiot internet criminal to get one of these (at least, not yet...).

Following in the footsteps of the .fr registry, the Italian registry in charge of .it domains has revolutionized its operations by upgrading from an asynchronous mode to a synchronous mode (EPP).
What does this mean for you? Those of you that have already had a taste of .it domains (and our poor customer service department) know what I'm talking about. This new mode means the following improvements:
- There are no longer any complicated faxes in Italian that need to be sent. This has been replaced by a slightly different sales contract that we have included in our new contract.
- Likewise, for a transfer, if the loosing registrar operates under EPP, you will no longer need to fax forms, but rather, supply an auth code just like .com or .net domains, for example.
- The zonecheck is still used however.
As a reminder, .IT domains are open to everyone that is living in the European Union, ad you must still indicate your VAT if you are a company or a personal ID number if you are a person, during the registration process.

We are accredited for .AM and .FM, and these extensions will be on sale by the end of the year. However you can already benefit from your own domain in .TV with a 30% off new registrations, or for only €18.20 excl. VAT per year under A rates.
The promo does not apply to creations after the first year, renewals, or transfers, which already benefit from a low price at Gandi.
The .TV extension is open to all.
For more information, please visit the .TV information page at

In response to a generous promotion at Verisign (the registry that is in charge of .COM and .NET domains), we are having a sale on .com and .net creations until October 10th that gives you a 50% price reduction on the second year for new purchases, e.g. the first year is €12/$15/£8.30, but the second year is €6/$7.50/£4.15 excl. VAT. This offer is valid for all customers that buy on our A rates (45 domains or less).
For higher volume grids (B-D rates), we will apply this 50% discount in the first year (so €6/$7.50/£4.30 excl. VAT per year), then normal B-D price for each extra year. And for E rates this is €4/$5.50/£3.60 in the first year, then normal E rates afterwards.
.COM and .NET domains are open to all for registration.
Get started and buy your .COM and .NET domains

A new version of Gandi AI, labeled 1.2, is currently available via the server module management page of your account. This version corrects many bugs and imperfections that were present in version 1.1. It also significantly improves the performance of Apache due to the replacement of the mpm-itk module by a per-user module.
We are also going to take advantage of this upgrade to implement two additional modules:
- PunBB, an efficient open-source forum that is solid, light, and written in PHP
- Magento, a (the?) open-source platform that allows you to create an online store. Many add-ons are available on the MagentoConnect platform, such as the possibility of customizing the design of your store, changing the language of your interface, or to activate the payment platform of your preference. Also note that Magento needs 2 to 3 shares to run correctly.

Hello,
We are still experiencing difficulty with a certain number of GandiMail accounts. A maintenance operation began this morning to fix the problem and to return the situation to normal in the coming weeks.
In the coming months, you will see the release of a new GandiMail platform (v.2) which will provide more stability. We anticipate it being released in the last quarter of 2009.
UPDATE: 09/09/90 - we have installed additional hardware to help with the overload. We are currently migrating the most heavily-impacted customers to the new machine.
UPDATE: 10/09/09 - the platform is responding very well to the modifications we have made
In any case, please accept our apologies if you were affected by this incident.
Sincerely,
The Gandi Team

Hello,
Our webservers' load balancers are currently offline. This has caused our website to become unavailable. Our technical team has been working on the problem since it began.
The side-effects of this outage are:
- Management pages unavailable
- API disconnected
- Web forwarding not working
Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause, and we will continue to keep you informed of changes in the situation.

We have experienced a problem on one of our filers, mainly due to a load problem. We have taken all the necessary actions to fix it, and so the situation will progressively return to normal.
Only a small number of our customers are impacted by this incident.

As many of you probably already know, Gandi has customers in 192 different countries.
We have historically sold the most domain in the French-speaking market, though looking closely we see that our Belgian neighbors are under-represented...Ça alors !
And since the Registry of our dear neighbors is having a nice promo, we hereby declare September as ".BE month"!
We will sell .be domains at 2 euros excl. VAT (2.39 euros incl. VAT) for creations and transfers (which includes a free year renewal) in all the rate scales.
So, our Belgian friends and friends of Belgians (you do not need to be Belgian to have a .BE), welcome to Gandi!

Here is a little fall surprise for our European customers: As a result of our Sale on EU domains, we have "won" a certain number of domains at the registry, EURid. To help you benefit from this occasion, we are dropping the price of .EU domains to 0.10 euros excluding VAT, for the next 4,000 .EU domains, until August 31st at 23:59 CET!!
These domains can only be created for one year, and paid for by credit card, prepaid account, or PayPal.
So you no longer have any excuse to not have your own .EU domain (well, unless you don't live in the EU zone... ;))

Following the discovery of a critical security flaw in the Linux kernel applicable to all kernel version, we have made a patched version available of the 2.6.18-xenU kernel used by the virtual machines on our hosting platform. In order to make use of this new version, you will need to restart your server, which you can do simply with the linux command "reboot". We will thus allow you to make arrangements to effect this reboot according to your own scheduling requirements.

Hello,
Following last night's air conditioning problem in one of our datacentres, we had to slow down some services, including mail. The problem has now been fixed and the service is running at full speed. However, the accumulated delay of last night has consequently delayed the delivery of messages to your mailboxes and forwarding addresses. Still, no mails have been lost, and we estimate that the service will be back to normal by the end of the day.
Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience this may have caused.

As a result of a problem with the air conditioning in two of our
datacentre locations, we have had to halt all services in that
location. This impacts pretty much a quarter of our hosting and all sitemaker services
as well as one of our DNS clusters. We are working with our colocation
partners to attempt to restart the services as quickly as possible.
We will keep you informed of developments on this issue.
We apologise for any inconvenience.
23:40: Our colocation partner is currently migrating to a backup cooling system.
00:40: The temperature is slowly dropping, and we will being by reactivating part of the services. Our colocation partner is still working on repairing the cooling system, however, but we do not yet have an estimated time to repair.
07:00: We are now staring to bring services back up in the second datacentre affected by the cooling system failure. Some services still degraded, however.
07:45: Most services are now available.
08:15: Incident has been resolved. Any customers still experiencing problems with their servers, please contact support via the online form.

This upgrade does not contain any major overhauls, though you will nonetheless see subcategories, which many of you have been requesting. Also, among the changes are a new video media (vimeo.com), the support of Flash 10, many new video options, as well as a plethora of minor corrections...
